New York, New York…

I am quite sure that everybody is dreaming with the open eyes about visiting New York one day. It’s on the bucket list of most of us, it’s simply a must. And I can say it, you have all the reasons to do it. It’s full of life, people & noises; an unusual mix of nationalities and languages; different neighbourhoods, huge distances, long rides with the subway, bus or why not by cab. Skyscrapers, but also fancy old buildings. Central Park, Empire State, Liberty Statue, Brooklyn, Times Square at night, there are so many things that define this place and of course you all have heard about these before.

I had an amazing time in New York and I want to share with you some of the learnings, tips & tricks on how to better plan your holiday and take the best out of it.

Where to stay?

We all are looking for accommodation in Manhattan, to be in the middle of the city, close to everything (at least to the most important attractions of the city). For this I would suggest 2 things – Airbnb can be a good & much cheaper alternative to the hotels in the city, so consider this as being a good option. Secondly, you can look for lodging in Uptown as well, as long as it’s close to a subway station and a good connection to Downtown. Or why not? Even in Brooklyn, not dangerous at all, it’s catching up Manhattan and becoming a trendy place to stay.

The city is huge, so you should thoroughly plan your days there, as you might end up wasting your time commuting. It takes a lot of time to travel from one part to another of the city, so make the plans by area.

Buy tickets online before the trip for the main attractions if you want to avoid queuing, especially for the Statue of Liberty, Empire State or Rockefeller centre, museums or anything you might consider visiting.

Go to the top and get the amazing view of the city – here I would suggest to go for the Rockeffeler centre, it’s less crowded and you can have a complete view of the city, including the Empire State & Central Park.

Go for the 9.11 Memorial, it’s impressive – you need tickets only if you want to visit the museum, otherwise you can just walk by.

If you love art, you should count some hours for MoMa and Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim is nice as well.

Make sure you also make some time for Soho district. Beautiful architecture, the famous buildings with the exterior emergency staircases; lots of restaurants, cafes and bars; international brands stores & local boutiques. Take a walk on the High line – a suspended park built on the place of the New York Central Railroad, far from the crowded streets.
